Mine Closure 2024 Site Visit

26–28 November 2024 | The Westin Perth, Western Australia

Alcoa Site Visit

Alcoa is a global industry leader in bauxite, alumina and aluminium products with a vision to reinvent the aluminium industry for a sustainable future. Alcoa’s Australian operations represent one of the world’s largest integrated bauxite mining, alumina refining and aluminium smelting systems. With six decades of production under our belt in Australia, we appreciate the energy, integrity, talent and determination to succeed of the thousands of people who built Alcoa as we currently know it.

Today, our two bauxite mines and three alumina refineries in Western Australia produce approximately 50 per cent of Australia’s alumina. Our Portland Aluminium Smelter in Victoria produces more than 20 per cent of the nation’s aluminium. We also operate two dedicated port facilities and two farmlands in Western Australia. These locations are known for being among the most cost-efficient, technologically advanced and environmentally conscious in our industry.

About the tour

Our Western Australian assets are based south of Perth and all within 150 kilometres of each other, providing synergies for our business, and the opportunity for you to experience our integrated system. On the tour you will see how we transform the bauxite we mine into alumina and turn previously mined areas back into self-sustaining forest ecosystems through our world leading mine site rehabilitation.

During the tour you will visit:

  • Alcoa’s Huntly Bauxite Mine
  • Rehabilitated previously mined forest
  • Alcoa’s Pinjarra Alumina Refinery
